Spring Sangria for Mother's Day

The sun is out and it's expected to reach 77 degrees later today! What better way to welcome warm Spring weather than with a batch of white sangria to share with mom for mother's day (or just to drink on your own and feel a little fancy!)

I found some grapes and pear that was about to go bad and a half bottle (magnum size) of white wine in the fridge that my tall friend left behind.  I washed the fruits and cut them into long strips for the pears and halves for the grapes.

Place the cut up fruit in a container and add the white wine. I prefer Pino Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc but if you prefer something sweet, go with Riesling.  On the other hand, if you like it a bit tart, get a bottle of Chardonnay.

The drink will be fine with just the wine but I wanted to kick it up a notch and added a couple of splashes of Lychee liqueur and peach schnapps to add additional fruit flavor.  The lychee liqueur adds a "tropical" boost to the sangria.  It can be hard to find but most big liquor stores do carry it for about $ 20-25.00 a bottle.  I got mine at Drum Hill Liquor Store.

Chill the drink for a couple of hours in the fridge to let the fruit soak the alcohol and also to let it release its own natural fruit juices.

Serve chilled with brunch, lunch, dinner or even "Breakfast Pizza"
