Costa Rica Backpacking Adventures

The Mo and I went backpacking in Costa Rica July 2010 during the "Rainy" Season.  Yup, it actually rained quite a bit.  This was the most adventurous and adrenaline pumping we had ever taken.  We rapelled waterfalls, ziplined from tree to tree thousands of feet up in the air, hiked active volcanoes, plunged in waterfalls, took baths in hot springs and went horse back riding inside the junugle and along the beach.

The first destination was La Fortuna, the home of the Arenal volcano.

We stayed at Arenal Backpackers resort, a self proclaimed 5 star hostel resort.  The hostel had a beautiful swimming pool and lively bar.  We stayed in a 6 person shared dorm room that was cleaned immaculately throughout the day.

The first day we ventured into town and grabbed lunch from a mom and pop's "soda" shop.  We each got "Casado" plate  that is served with rice, meat, beans, tortilla and usually salad.

At night, we sat at the bar and made friends with other travelers from other parts of the world.  Coincidentally, we actually met people from Massachusetts as well.

We did a joint Arenal Volcano hiking tour that ended with a dip in the renowned hot springs.

The next day, we woke up to our next adventure.  Rappelling water falls with Desafio Adventure Company.

As if rapelling waterfalls wasn't adrenaline pumping enough, we went canopying the next day.

It was time to get going the following day and make our way down South to Santa Teresa.  We grabbed coffee and pastries from a local bakery and packed our things.

After a long journey on a van and over ferries, we arrived in Santa Teresa.  We spoiled ourselves with a private poolside room and grabbed an early dinner.

We got dressed and went to the Reggae Beach party where I got drunk waay to fast and never
made it to the point where the actual party started.

It was time to pack up and make our way towards Montezuma.

Montezuma used to be a tiny fishing village and has evolved to become a tourist spot for backpackers exploring the beaches, rivers and waterfalls.

Our first trip in Montezuma was a snorkeling tour to Tortugua (Turtle) Island.

The next day we went horse back riding with Dorothy and Marvin, followed by drinking and dinner at their home.
