Pan-Asian cuisine at Tamarind Restaurant on Mahe Island Seychelles

After a day of sleeping, reading, swimming and drinking, one can develop an appetite.

I might be biased because I'm Asian but the specialty Pan Asian Tamarind Restaurant at Avani Seychelles Barbarons  is probably the BEST resort dining that I've tried.  We ate there 3 nights out of the 4 nights we stayed in that area of Seychelles.  There were other restaurants on site and others nearby but we opted for Tamarind almost every night (maybe it's also the fact that we were drunk most nights and the restaurant was only a few steps from our suite.)

The beachfront restaurant features an Asian inspired menu with a chef from Thailand.  Most of the ingredients are local but there are some specialty items that are imported from United Arab Emirates and Indonesia.

Our first night, we took part in the earth day beach bbq with a multi-appetizer offering followed by grilled prawns, chicken sate, rice and more!

We ordered a la carte for our next visits.  The Mo and I split the Thai eggrolls, catch of the day and delicious deep fried prawns.

The Thai rolls were a bit different than what I was accustomed to but they still hit the spot.  I asked the chef what he did and he said he had to be creative with the ingredients since the island did not have many of the typical things to make the ingredients.

My favorite dish for the whole vacation was the deep fried battered prawns with the tamarind chutney sauce.  I told the Mo that I am going to try to make it at home.

The catch of the day was a grilled snapper served with lightly stir fried green beans and a spicy green chili dipping sauce.

We also ate at the Tamarind restaurant on our last farewell night.  The pork belly was absolutely delicious but the noodles were just OK.

The chef learned we enjoy spicy food so he added an extra level of spice to our dish and slivered some imported Thai chilies for us.

We spent over $ 100.00 for dinner each night for an appetizer and two entrees, drinks not included.  It was a bit pricey but that's typical for Seychelles.
