Afternoon high tea at St.Regis Mumbai

During our stay at St.Regis Mumbai, we were treated to a delightful afternoon high tea experience in the drawing room.  Traditionally, high tea was a social event for upper class British where they can get in  a quick bite in between meals since their dinners were later in the evening and much more formal and lengthy, not to mention getting dressed for the dinner itself. (Think Downton Abby)

In addition to the other high end hotels like the Taj Mahal Palace and the Taj Lands End, St.Regis jumped on the bandwagon and offered its own version of the tea service.

Upon arrival through the elevators, the first introduction of the hotel is through the Drawing room which boast an elegant staircase as well as many comfortable couches and tables.  There were many business meetings here during our stay.

It took a while to get someone to greet us. It seems that many people just use the area as a meeting area of work space and they don't want to be bothered by the staff.  There was a great variety of tea to choose from. I went with the Mumbai Masala Chai and the Mo just got a coffee.

For our snacks, there were 3 options to choose from all included sconces, sandwiches and sweet ensembles.  The St.Regis Mumbai Afternoon Tea was 1450 rupees and had basic cakes and sliders, mostly vegetarian.  The Indian Heritage Afternoon Tea was a step up at 1550 rupees.  We went with the grand Caroline Astor Afternoon Tea which featured lobster, caviar, gold leaves and much more. It was named after the famous and fashionable american socialite, Caroline Webster Astor who peaked in the mid 1800's.  The Caroline Tea is also available with our without a glass of Moet & Chandon.

The sconces and small bites arrived on the traditional three tiered serve-ware where they were beautifully displayed along with a side of jam and butter. I didn't know where to start.

The dark chocolate Venezuelan cadeaux even had gold leaf flakes!

The exotic pistachio fruit tart was beautiful!

My favorite was the lobster and caviar croissant.

Macarons are already delicious but this was a step up with adorned embellishments .

It was a fun experience but we typically don't spend that much on tea and coffee for a week.  I'm glad it was part of our room package.
